Halloween and a Birthday

Our smiley girl getting ready for bed in her new pj's (the kind with the feet) I'm sure you all remember those...

This past week has been pretty eventful. Josh has been busy at work. New City's foyer area is under some intense construction to expand the area and turn it into 2 offices (hopefully), one for Josh and one for Deborah! A door with a lock on it... finally! And Aylah has been busy brushing up on her dance moves and expanding to different music genres. Josh and I have found ourselves in a little bit of slump lately. We're not too sure what to blame it on but are looking forward to our friends Justin and Marguerite visiting over Thanksgiving!

For Halloween Aylah was a ballerina. A last minute effort on my part to throw together a costume resulted in a not too bad tutu and pink ensemble. I'm glad I didn't put too much effort or money into it because Aylah ended up "losing it" in one of her temper tantrums (she's working on getting better at those too) in the middle of the Halloween Parade in Hoboken we were marching in. Resulting in me pulling her onto the sidewalk and heading for home earlier than expected. But besides the minor breakdown Aylah had a great time going door to door at the stores with her large plastic pumpkin and gathering candy for her parents to eat. We then found a friend from Mom's group and watched part of the parade with them before joining the parade for our grand total of 3 blocks before Aylah's episode ;) So my pictures this year were diminished in number due to our short time at the festivities. Aylah was still a little confused about why people kept putting things in her pumpkin and wanted to sit down in the middle of the crowded sidewalk to figure out just exactly which candy it was that had been added. Maybe next year will be her golden year...

Watching the parade. Aylah loved the Elvis float because Elvis was shaking his hips like she does when she dances.

Saturday was my birthday- I'm 27 now- which ended better than it started. Aylah is teething again and has been in a very, let's just say, fragile mood lately. She has been running a fever, is cranky, is refusing to eat or drink anything, and is waking up several times a night. She has improved over the past couple days so we hope the worst is over. So Saturday was her first rough day. Josh got me some pretty pink and red roses and the DVD's of Alias ;) Then we went out to dinner and a movie. Which may seem simple but it was just what I wanted to do. While we were waiting for the movie to start I realized my last time in a theater was the month before Aylah was born. I've got to get out more ;)

This weekend I'm going on a Women's retreat with our chruch. It's my first time to leave Aylah for the weekend and the first time to leave her alone with Josh for more than 5-6 hours or so. He said that he's scared he's going to forget to feed her, but I'm sure he'll be fine! We noticed that on weekends that Moms go away and leave the kids with dads that moms express hesitation and doubt as to whether the men can handle it. Josh asked what that was about and I told him that being a woman, and a mom, that I have a pretty good perspective. I think that moms express their feelings of doubt because they really want their husbands to appreciate what they do as moms and want to prove, in some sort of way, that what they do is worthwhile and that men couldn't live without their wives.
Here is the day before Halloween with Aylah dancing to a little Dixie Chicks. I realized that all of our videos lately are of her dancing... probably because every day she comes up with new moves. So below is another video of her dancing to a music card that Josh's parents sent me for my birthday. (Sorry they are both sideways. I'm not going to promise I'll ever figure out how to rotate them :(

And finally a list of words that Aylah can say that some people have been asking for. Mind you they might not sound exactly like the actual word to others, but to me, I know exactly what she is trying to say :)

"ma-ma" "da-da" "hi" "banana" "shoes" "sock" "cracker" "milk" "more" "all done" and my favorite from last weekend that was so clear and easy to understand I about fell off the couch
"I want more." How's that for ya?

She still, however, makes the monkey sound for all animals that she sees; dogs, birds, horses.... we'll have to work on that :)
